About QRS

Welcome to QRS Call of Duty UO gaming.

We are a small group of people that play Call of Duty: United Offensive. You can join us any night, but most of us play on Friday and Saturday night starting at 8 PM ET, and holidays.

Our server plays mostly Capture The Flag (CTF), but a mix of other gamemodes are tossed in. Each month, we hand-pick about 20 maps for the rotation. You can request a map on the Maps page. Our server will select maps from the rotation according to number of players in-game (more players, bigger maps). With over 1500 maps available at some point you will play a map you have never played before.

QRS stands for QuieTus, Redneck, Sniper[+]Fire. We are the founders. We have been playing since 2004. We have run at least five servers over the years.

We run our own custom mod which has been developed in-house for over 10 years. Here are the main features:

Note that we occasionally enable or disable specific features.

Our Members

QuieTus: original founder, mods, and OLDEST KNOWN COD PLAYER (71 years young)

A gamer since the days of pinball machines (1960’s). He would sell glass coke bottles to grocery stores for a nickel. This way he would have money to play them. Pinballs machines evolved into electronic games with Pac Man, Galactica, Centipede, DigDug, Qbert, and of course Dragon’s Lair. His first computer was a 1982 Timex Sinclair 1000 (within 2 months Q had broke into the coding and started hacking the games programs and changing parameters. The game: War Tank. Followed by: Atari, Space Invaders, Baseball, and a host of other games.

Q got his first desktop in 1992 an Acer 386 with a phone modem played on what was then called a Bulletin Board. Games included: Wolfenstein, Doom, Heretic, Doom II, and Duke Nukem. The Duke “Quake” Engine changed everything: Hexen, Paintball, Heretic 2.

The first “real” (see below) multi-player network game came out Falcon3 (1992), Falcon Gold 1994. Falcon Gold required a math co-processor and a 33mhz 486. Moreover, this game was networkable to play over the modem either as team or versus. After that a slew of network games emerged, 1602 A.D., Command and Conquer, Ages of the Empire, SimCity, Starcraft, Starwars Rebellion, and Star Wars Racer; all networkable and multiplayer FPS.

Playing against other humans was the gaming he was waiting for in a first person shooter format. That game was F-22 Lightning 3 1996. Even though you were flying it was FPS. ToonCar followed using the same engine except in a car. These were the first true mano e mano, deathmatch, teammatch, or solo (against the computer) networkable games. Several other games existed: NASA Maze War 1980, (everyone looked like an eyeball, first corner-peeking game that ALL current FPS use), Battlezone, Wolenstein3D 1992, Doom 1993, Then the Quake engine 1996, followed by Rainbow 6, Counter Strike, Golden Eye 007, Perfect Dark, Medal of Honor, Halo Series, Command and Conquer, Far Cry, and then CALL OF DUTY.

The advent of the Quake 3 engine evolved from Duke Nukem and opened the door for the Call of Duty, Half-Life gaming genre. For Christmas Dec 25th 2003 Q opened Call of Duty, to this day he has no idea what else he got. Sept 24th of 2004 he got COD UO, additionally, he has no idea what else he got or anyone else got for that matter on that Christmas day either, and has been playing COD ever since. Playing at AS, DBB, TWZ and every clan he could find always getting banned or kicked, always looking for something that made sense, knowing something out there was better, a better way, a better gaming experience.

Redneck: original founder, map maker

Red was our Chief Gaming Officer and has been playing since COD came out as well. He has been part of numerous clans from Austin Servers to Tomorrows Weapons (TWZ aka LW) to Texas Junkyard Clan. Red and Quietus have been banned, kicked, or blocked from numerous servers or clans, but played together, as have most of us. After the “Great Fallout” (TWZ Doctor/Hansy) Red though his connections started collecting banned players including Quietus, Wraith, Bloodclot, Neith, along with several others and formed the Texas Junkyard Clan. Basically, the players no one else wanted. His inspiration paid off and the group jelled and flourished. It was Redneck that rekindled this group into QRS and we continue to grow.

Sniper[+]Fire: original founder, server master, website guru, mods, and map maker

Sniper is our Chief Admin, and Technology / MOD developer. He runs this thing we call QRS. He also continues to write code, develop game features, and make maps. He joined TJC after the “Great Fallout” with TWZ at the old age of 14. While never banned by TWZ, one of the very few, he joined us at TJC along with his dad Gunney. There Sniper started writing code, modifying Mods, making maps, and making TJC the clan it became.

Several years after TJC shutdown, Sniper setup a small home server with Lenny and Saminator running out of his home. Emails from Sniper to Redneck and then Quietus, got them interested in playing again. It was Redneck that suggest that we start an actual game server again.

Q and Sniper worked for several weeks on getting a server that worked with enough download speed to entice others to join. Q being old got tired of the numerous challenges that came with starting a home server (failures) and purchased a gameserver with GameServers Hosting. Sniper went ballistic writing code, developing the game, and making our mod. Sniper[+]Fire also came up with our name. QRS: Quietus, Redneck, and Sniper[+]Fire.

Sniper+Fire has an intellectual prowess rarely seen anymore coupled with common sense. He is the sticky substance that binds us all together. There is no QRS without his demeanor and input.

With the help of QuieTus, Sniper[+]Fire, Redneck, and Nitr0gen we have been able to maintain Call of Duty UO for two decades.

Nitr0gen: webmaster, server guru and map maker

He also has been with us since 2004. He is the only one that can wear whatever colors he chooses. He is both founder and admin.

Nitro joined us early in our development. He has been with us since 2004, also joining at the ripe old age of 14. Nitro and his dad played at many of the same clans that Red and Q did. Nitro and his Dad were great friends with Red and Q. After TWZ’s Great Fallout, Nitro joined TJC, along with his dad, making many of our maps. His coding and capabilities were instrumental in developing TJC into the clan it became. Nitro and his Dad have been in the Clan since the beginning.

After TJC Nitro reconnected with QRS and immediately picked up where he left off helping us setup QRS, developing our website, linking domain names and assisting Sniper with coding for the game server. QRS would not be what it is without Nitr0gen.

Wakanuki: admin, pictured below

Waka is our beacon in the night. He provides expertise, guidance, and a voice of reason. Waka is often tasked with the month'smap selection and rotation and has full administration capability. If you have an issue feel free to contact him. Additionally, it is his responsibility to reign Q in when he gets out of bounds.

dirtcrew: admin

Joined us and became a mainstay with the clan and helped us to become who we are as well. His no nonsense approach to gaming and keeping the game pure is refreshing and an integral part of what QRS is.

Lazy Girl then Cake then who knows: admin

She has been a voice of reason for Q. Her technical expertise and ability to see through the minutia has assisted the clan in its growth and development. She is the sounding board and common sense that helps us navigate todays world. Her youth and zest for life keeps Q and QRS in the now.

Wanabe

Wana contributed in the fine art of public relations establishing rules and basically how we should act. Developing what actions should be taken when dealing with non-honorable individuals. His input has been instrumental and inspirational for our growth.

GS Saxon

Saxon has been playing COD for as long as Q has. His expertise and knowledge of servers, maps (describe a map and he can tell you the name and BSP), mods, clans, and players is invaluable. Every time Q gets stuck he runs to Saxon for knowledge and assistance.

Play Hard, Play Fair

We do NOT ban.

If there becomes an issue, we will kick. Game disruption or cheating are the quickest ways to get kicked. We do not kick people unless we must.

We do not have a lot of rules and like to have fun. The one rule we do have is no cheating. No aim bots, no wall hacks, etc.

We run a CLEAN server, and our REPUTATION is far more important to us than winning.

The tags colors are of your choice the only color that is reserved is ^5 light blue that is reserved for founders and admins. For founders, all three letters of QRS are light blue (like ^5QRS). Nitr0gen has his choice. Admins may select one or two of the letters in QRS as light blue to signify that they are admins (e.g. ^5Q^7R^5S or ^9Q^5R^3S or ^6Q^5RS). Waka, for example, is our senior admin, and if he chooses, he could make any two of the letters in QRS light blue.

Admins do NOT have to use light blue if they choose not to.

Colors

You may select any brackets you wish – e.g. { } or ( ) or [ ] or none. You may change color brackets as you wish as well as in any combination you wish "^7(^1Q^2R^3S^7) ^9Your Name" (^7(^1Q^2R^3S^7) ^9Your Name), for example. You may make every letter or number a distinct color. All up to you. Again, ^5 (light blue) is reserved for admins and founders in the QRS.

We use gametracker to track your stats and times. So, if you change your tags, you will lose the stats you accumulate.

FAQ

How do tripwires work?

Tripwires are two grenades placed on the ground (usually across a doorway or narrow path) that will detonate when something crosses between them. This includes enemy players, doors, and vehicles (occupied or not). Players on the same team will NOT trip them, but friendly vehicles will. Flags (in CTF) and nearby entrances are prime locations, so it's a good idea to check before charging in (or out) of the enemy base.

Tripwires will be damaged by nearby explosions, such as those from grenades. Generally it takes two grenades or one satchel charge to clear out a tripwire. Tripwires are thus not well suited to areas that get heavily attacked.

Most of the time regular grenades are used. Usually they will stop an enemy player in their tracks, but not always!

Smoke grenades may also be used. They don't hurt, but will produce the expected smoke cloud. They can be a good option to cover your escape or as a detection mechanism since they still make noise. The width of smoke trips is about double that of regular ones.

If you can obtain more than one satchel charge, a satchel tripwire is a great way to ruin an enemy attack. They do tremendous damage (it's two satchels after all) and can even take out enemy vehicles. The wire height is higher which makes them very difficult to jump over successfully. Like smoke trips, they also have a wide span. However, they can be set off by bullets, so it's a good idea to place them out of sight.

How do I place a tripwire?

Tripwires can be placed by going prone with 2 or more grenades/smokes/satchels and pressing melee. The tripwires become active IMMEDIATELY. Tripwires can't be installed everywhere, for instance if there's not enough space or a if platform is too narrow.

How do I diffuse a tripwire?

Tripwires are defused just like they're placed, except without holding grenades/smokes/satchels/knives. Go prone with your main weapon, pistol, or binoculars, crawl towards one of the two grenades, and press melee. Be careful when disarming satchels - do not hit the satchel charge with your weapon, as this may cause it to detonate!

When you defuse a tripwire you may get back both grenades, just one, or neither. This depends on the server's current settings, which we change occasionally. When defusing your own trips you always get both of them back.

Sticky nades?

Grenades, smokes, and satchels can be attached to walls, other players (including teammates), vehicles, and generally anything that moves. Walk up to (or chase) the target with your grenade in hand and bash it with the melee key. This is a great way to humiliate your enemies, harass your teammates, and destroy tanks. Just be sure to stand clear when it goes off.

Bullet simulation?

Our mod simulates bullet penetration and ricochets. This means that you can shoot through thin objects and glance bullets off walls at shallow angles. The damage will be reduced significantly, however. It depends on the material's thickness. Bullets fired directly perpendicular at a surface are more likely to penetrate it due to geometry. Wood, glass, paper, and cloth are particularly weak to penetration, while stone and metal are more likely to cause ricochets.

Somebody just shot me through a wall! They're hacking!

Not necessarily - see the previous topic. As far as hacking is concerned, bullets are computed by the server. There's no hack that would give a player the ability to shoot through walls. It's frequently possible to guess the approximate location of an enemy player behind a barrier by timing, map knowledge, or just sheer luck.

What does QRS mean?
